Project: Creative Settings of a City (January– July, 2010)

The project included an interactive exhibit, a seminar, and sociological survey ‘Social and Cultural Profile of the Russian Cities Residents’; the project aimed to develop creative potential of an urban community and new local initiatives in cultural and creative sectors. In2009, theprojectwasrealizedinKolomnaandPetrozavodsk. In 2010, an exhibit, a seminar and a sociological survey were held in Samara (Art-propaganda Club, April, 22-23, 2010); Krapivna, Tula oblast (Exhibition hall of the Local History Museum, May, 15-16, 2010) and Surgut, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (Art School, May, 28-30, 2010). The survey results get published at the Creative Industries Agency website and became the basis for preparation of book Cultural Policy and Cultural Economy. Points to shape regional strategies (Classic ХХI Publishers, 2010).

Final sessions of the project were organized in Moscow. Public lecture ‘Creation of an Urban Environment’ was delivered by Vyacheslav Glazychev, architect, a member of Public Chamber of Russia, in WINZAVOD Contemporary Art Center (June 9, 2010). In the frames of the Moscow Regional Creative Industries Fair there were presented the project’s master-classes and Creative City exhibit.

Creative Industries training program for the students of Social and Cultural Project Management Faculty of the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (WINZAVOD Contemporary Art Center, February – April, 2010)

A series of master-classes with participation of the representatives of creative businesses located in the WINZAVOD cluster, including students’ visits to different creative studios and galleries – Svetlana Tegin’s studio, Meglinskaya Gallery, Proun Gallery, FotoLoft and a meeting with the managers of Tsurtsum Cafe. The program also included a presentation of Sofia Trotsenko, head of the WINZAVOD project.

Seminar:  New Formats for Cultural Organizations’ Activities (March 2 – 6, 2010, Irkutsk)

Seminar for the workers of cultural institutions was focused on basic trends in the budgetary policy of Russian Federation in 2010, ongoing reforms in the public sector and development of tools to secure financial sustainability of a cultural institution (how to form an endowment fund, aspects of public-private partnership and fundraising technologies).

Seminar: Contemporary Cultural Markets (March 19-21, 2010, Petrozavodsk)

Seminar organized in the frames of contemporary art training program for creative youth was focused on particular aspects of cultural markets’ development in Russia and copyright management.

Seminar: New Formats for Cultural Organizations’ Activities (March 28-30, 2010, Novosibirsk)

Seminar for the workers of social sector was focused on practical implications of Federal Law 174-ФЗon Autonomous Institutions, on tools to secure financial sustainability of the institutions in social sector.

PermProject: Cultural Policy Concept for Perm Krai (April – November, 2010)

The regional cultural policy concept entitled ‘The Perm Project’ was commissioned by the Ministry of Culture of Culture of Perm Krai and was developed by an expert team. The development of the concept included a working seminar with participation of the team members. The results were presented at the Perm Economic Forum and on the public hearings in November 2010 in Perm.

Seminar: Russian Cities: managing development (June 5, 2010, Togliatti)

The seminar explored the issues of managing technologies for innovative urban development, existing opportunities to include social and creative resources into master plans of cities.

Seminar: Creative Economy: a governmental project or a private initiative? (June 9, 2010, Moscow, Public Chamber of the Russian Federation)

The seminar’s program was focused on the issues of creative economy development in Russia, contributions of local communities, authorities and businesses to creating favorable conditions for creative industries and creative economy. 

The lecture and discussion “Making a City Milieu” (June 09, 2010, CCA (“Winzavod”)

The lecture of Vyacheslav Glazychev was focused on civil initiatives which could change a city life.  The lecture topic provoked and stimulated the discussion afterwards. The main issues debated by the participants included – What means help use creative energy of a community to change a city environment? How can one build relations with the authorities and businesses, how communicate ideas for joint work? What are basic resources used in the work with a community? Which humanitarian technologies are the most important and asked-for in this work?

The Moscow Regional Creative Industries Fair (June 10, 2010, Kuz’minki Moscow Regional Arts House)

The Moscow Regional Creative Industries Fair is the first event in Russia featuring opportunities of creative entrepreneurships and initiating broad public discussion on the issues of creative industries with participation of professional communities and mass media. The Fair’s program included a series of master-classes and round table discussions on the development of creative industries and small business in cultural and creative sectors.

International Symposium: Art in Residence. Tourism? Culture? Territorial Development? (June 14 – 17, 2010, Moscow region – Moscow)

Symposium was focused on opportunities of creating art-residences in Russia and developing interaction with international art-residences. The participants were representatives of the existing art-residences from Germany, the Netherlands, and of the emerging ones from the Russian regions (Vladivostok, Novosibirsk, Volgograd, Sochi, Perm, Kostroma, Petrozavodsk, St.Petersburg, Moscow, Kaliningrad).

Summer School: Creative Industries and Creative Economy: scientific and practical aspects of international integration (July 3 – 10, 2010, Moscow – Yasnaya Polyana).

The annual Summer School gathered 25 Russian students and an international team of lecturers from Great Britain, Spain, Germany and Russia. The students visited different creative venues in Moscow and then initiated and developed new projects.

Project: CREATIVEINDUSTRIES.NET (September – December, 2010)

In 2010 CREATIVEINDUSTRIAS.NET Project was launched, including a series of laboratories held in Russian regions. A laboratory is a space for experiments – creative, managing, and artistic – where experts and beginners collaborate as equal partners. The laboratory’s objective is to initiate and evaluate experimental ideas and to develop them further to be introduced. The laboratory’s program includes a Future City game, public lectures of foreign and Russian experts and a seminar aimed to develop new projects.

The first Project Laboratory ‘Museum and Design: social and cultural project in a city’ took place in Perm, October 6-11, 2010.

Participation in the Perm Economic Forum (September 17-18, 2010, Perm)

The Forum theme was New Economy and Cultural Policy. The Forum’s program included a presentation of the regional cultural policy concept. Elena Zelentsova, Director of Creative Industries Agency, and Elena Melville, Deputy Director, took part in the Forum.

Project: A Quadriliteral Fossil Fuel (October - December, 2010)

The project included Rehabilitation of Peat Exhibit, a series of round table discussions and lectures organized in the Polytechnic Museum. The objective of the project was to “release” peat from mass media stereotypes and “bring it back” to the system of scientific knowledge, historical and perspective technologies.

Project:  Museum Token (November – December, 2010)

Creative Industries Agency is a partner in the Museum Token Project realized by Association of Cultural Managers with the support of EU Commission Office in Russia.  The project aims to explore different aspects of a museum souvenir’s development, to draw the attention of professional community and general museum customers the topic, and to expand the market place for museum souvenirs. In December 2010, Elena Zelentsova, Director of Creative Industries Agency, and Elena Melville, Deputy Director, took part as experts in the project seminar. Creative Industries Agency is also responsible for designing a special research in the frames of the project.

Round Table Discussion: Urban Cultural Landscapes and Urban Development (November 10, 2010, Sochi)

The discussion was focused on urban regeneration through arts and creativity. The participants talked over the opportunities and challenges in developing cultural space in Sochi, host city for the Winter Olympics 2014. The round table discussion was moderated by Elena Zelentsova, Director of Creative Industries Agency. Tom Fleming, Director of Tom Fleming Creative Consultancy, Great Britain, made a presentation on developing a Cultural Olympiad.

Seminar and training: Arts and Science: new trends of innovative development  (November 26, 2010, Moscow)

The seminar participants got to know the Moscow creative organizations and venues, including those combining arts and sciencein their practice. Representatives of scientific community from the USA, Italy, Great Britain, Sweden and Russia took part in the seminar.

Creative Industries and the Humanities Weekend School for the students of the Saratov State University (December 18-19, 2010, Moscow)

The students had a chance to get to know the practices and operations of the Moscow leading creative organizations, to discuss opportunities provided by the emerging creative economy and creative industries for the humanities graduates.

Book: Cultural Policy and Cultural Economy. Points to shape regional strategies. Classic XXI Publishers, 2010.  

The publication aims to present evolution of cultural policy approaches in Russia and internationally, to introduce current trends and basis approaches in the field of cultural policy and cultural economy. The book content is based on the research and analytical works undertaken by the Creative Industries Agency staff in 2010.
